A murder suspect held in the Texas County Jail and wanted in New Mexico has a long criminal history, records show.

murdersuspectAndrew Richard Newman, 21, has no know address. Born in California, he has a criminal record in at least six states. He also has a felony warrant charging him with burglary in the Seattle, Wash., area.

So how did county authorities link Newman to the New Mexico murder? Fingerprints. A live-scan fingerprint method is used at the sheriff’s office. The prints are electronically sent to a clearing house, and two hours later the Albuquerque, N.M. police department was calling to report the man was wanted in their murder case.

Under an old fingerprint method, it would have been weeks before authorities learned the man was wanted.
