A Philadelphia man, Ray Goodman, is camping in Emmett Kelly Park tonight (Wednesday) as he hikes more than 10,000 miles across the United States and visits 20 national landmarks. Goodman hopes to raise $2 million for the Sierra Club, a group that raises awareness for environmental issues.

Goodman’s journey began April 2, and he recently made his first stop at Mammoth Springs, Ark.

He follows a set of rules that includes a cell phone that can only dial 911, no GPS or other navigational tool and relying on the “unsolicited kindness of strangers” for basic necessities like food, water and shelter.
