With 37 points in the Houston Tigers’ double-overtime victory at Mountain Grove on Tuesday, senior Kyle Poynter scored his 1,000th career point and moved 16 shy of the school record.

David Adams set the current mark of 1,019 from 1970-73. Poynter, who is playing just his second season with Houston, can eclipse that total with 17 points Friday when the Tigers travel to Thayer.

Poynter’s coaches are each among the school’s top 20 scorers. Head coach Brent Hall (551) ranks 17th and assistant Dustin Kirkman (870) is fourth.
